About AI for Beginners
AI for Beginners exists to take you from “I’ve heard of ChatGPT” to confidently using AI across your work and your life. No computer science degree required, and no prior experience assumed.
It started from a simple observation: AI arrived in most people’s lives almost overnight, and the guidance around it is either far too technical or breathless hype. We wanted a calm, patient, jargon-free place that treats you as an intelligent adult who happens to be new to this. That is the whole reason this site exists.
Who it’s for
It’s for anyone who feels that AI is suddenly everywhere and wants a calm, clear place to actually learn it. You might be a teacher, a small business owner, a student, a writer, a retiree, or curious. If a piece of jargon has ever made you feel out of the loop, you’re exactly who we write for.
Our philosophy
We have one rule above all others: never make the reader feel stupid. You’re intelligent. You’re a beginner at AI, not a beginner at life. So we explain every term in plain English, use everyday analogies, and are honest when something is genuinely tricky.
Everything here is free. The guides teach the concepts, the prompt library gives you tools you can use in seconds, and the solutions walk you through real tasks from start to finish.
How this site is made
Every guide, solution, and glossary entry is written and edited to a detailed house style guide, and reviewed by a person before it is published. We test the tools and prompts we describe, write in plain British English, and try never to overstate what AI can do.
AI moves quickly, so this is a living site. We update pages as tools and best practice change, add new content most weeks, and correct things when we get them wrong. If you ever spot a mistake, pleasetell us, because we would rather fix it than leave it.

Leon Mallett is the founder of AI for Beginners and of Captivated Ltd, and COO at the cloud software company IAM Cloud. A Sheffield-based bootstrapper, AI-coder, and problem solver, he builds practical, plain-English resources that help people use AI with confidence. He also runs the sister sites rag-repo.org and uk-ai.news.
